Explaining Simple Past

Simple past regular verbs: add ed to regular verbs:  walked, talked, worked, listened.

For consonant+Y, change the Y to I-- Study-studied, worry -- worried, bully - bullied
For vowel+Y, just add ed:  Played, enjoyed, employed

For irregular verbs, memorize (repeat until you remember).
Simple past forms are usually the second column.

Do NOT use a simple past verb form with DID or DIDN'T.
Only use past forms for positive sentences.

Did he walk to work?  Yes, he did.  He walked to work.  He didn't drive.
