Parts of Speech...

I don't expect anybody to understand parts of speech yet.  Parts of speech are names of categories that we use for words.  We use these names to talk about English grammar (typical patterns) the way math teachers talk about algebra with an x or a y.  Parts of speech are things to remember, not exactly understand.

So far, I introduced nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and adverbs.

These educational videos help children remember parts of speech.  I understand and respect that YOU are an adult.  I like to use songs when I want to remember things.  If it helps you, use it.  If it doesn't, don't.

Please change somethings gonna happen to "something is going to happen."  Verbs change to tell you about the time things happen (Verb tenses.  We studied=past, We study every day=simple present.  We are studying now.  We will study tomorrow=future.)  Verbs tell what something does or what is.

What are some of your favorite nouns?  What do you like to do?

Everything I do...

What's your first name?  Where are you from?  What do you do every day?
Do you have a big family?  Is your family here?
What do you usually do for your family?  What do you like to do for your friends?

Children go to school two hours late, but our class starts on time!

I know that children need watching.  Come as soon as you can!!  15 minutes is better than 0 minutes!

For the homework worksheets, look at the verbs.  Verbs are action words. Examples:   He likes Chinese food, and she does too.  He is Chinese, and she is too.  Only use "to be" (is, are) with "to be." (is, are)  Other verbs take "does" or "do" in simple present.  (Other verb tenses use their own question words for short answers.  I'm going to study, and Gulshan is too.  I'm not going to wait, and Bob isn't either.  I will wait, and Maria will too.  I won't quit, and my students won't either.  I can cook, and Liz can too.  Dorothy can't cook, and Rick can't either.  I went to France, and Maria did too.  I didn't go to Antartica, and Quy didn't either.)

Grammar Explanation and Practice for Simple Present

Be careful!  I hope I see you at 9:00.

Did you have "snow days" when you were a child?  I didn't have snow days when I lived in Colorado.  I was really surprised at my first snow day in Virginia.

Write about a memory in the snow.
