Stay!

Where is the nicest place you have ever stayed?  Did you ever stay at a resort?  What are the best resorts?

What?

(better make up your mind=you had better make a decision=it's important for you to make a decision.  If you don't make a decision, there will be bad consequences.)

What are the most important phrases you use when you don't completely understand?

What a Wonderful World!

The pictures are pretty, but they don't exactly match the song.  The flower when he sings "rose" isn't a rose.

Can you spot any non-action verbs?   Please comment and tell me what they are.
Non-action "stative" verb explanation and practice

What do you like to look at?  What makes you happy?

Wherever = any place

You can say, "How beautiful! OR "Beautiful, isn't it?"  Please don't put them together.  Also, don't use an apostrophe when you write, "thanks."

Today's Video links -- Listening Practice

Listening Conversation Practice (What do you do? Where do you work? How long does it take you)

https://www.real-english.com/reo/31/unit31.htm

SxS Simple present with frequency adverbs and object pronouns

Optional Practice -- Conversational dialogues about public transportation.

Document--Some questions for the information in the train schedules

Another fast Challenging Video for fun--

Try to sing this to practice speed and that short "A" sound -- if you have time and it looks like fun.

Don't use the slang "balling the jack."  In the 1930's, it meant 1. dancing 2. having a good time and 3. going really fast on a train.  Now "balling" can be about sex, and Jack is a popular name.

Did you like the videos today?  Were you okay with asking questions for the train schedule?  Do you like to take trains?  How often do you take trains?  Did you take trains often in your former country?

Children go to school two hours late, but we are supposed to start on time.

Children go to school two hours late today, but we are supposed to start on time.

Be safe.  Keep your children safe.  Come to class as soon as you can if you can.
I hope I'll be there on time!

Drive safely!  Keep warm!  What do you do in the snow?

I always shovel the sidewalk in front of my house.  My husband usually cleans the snow off of the cars.  My son sometimes shovels the neighbor's sidewalks.  I sometimes build a snowman or snow bird or snow baby -- especially if I can make it with a small child.  I rarely catch snowflakes to look at closely, even though I often did that when I was a small child.

How's the weather?

I hope this gives a quick review of easy weather words with good listening practice and maybe a few new words...

Game/Quiz-- Do you understand the forecast? (from Woodward English)

Is the weather in Virginia similar to weather in places you've lived before?  Where have you lived?  Were there four seasons?  Was it humid?  Was there a lot of rain?  What's your favorite season?

School Starts ON TIME today!

If you can't come on time, come as soon as you can.  Don't worry about it.  I understand that new students won't know to come on time today.  Just come as soon as you can!

What do you want?

(I am sorry that this song is a little depressing.  Practice the "What do you want?" the way the singer sings it, because the stress/rhythm is good for you.)

How can I make your English class fun and excellent?

NO SCHOOL TODAY

If you have friends that signed up for my class, please call them before they come to school.  I can't get any phone numbers before 9:00.  Fairfax County doesn't get enough snow to spend a lot of money on snow equipment.  Schools often shut down in the snow. You will get the same number of hours of instruction that you paid for -- we make up snow days.

Honestly, I don't think the roads are that bad now.
I think the schools are worried about the forecast for this afternoon.

I am shocked to have a snow day on the first day of school.  Is today your first snow day?

One Goal

The goal of this class is to learn a lot of English as fast as we can.  What do you enjoy doing to improve your English?

One Moment of Time

This singer wants one amazing moment in time.  Write about a happy memory.  What are some of your favorite moments in time?

In case you didn't know...

We often say, "in case of" to mean if there's the situation that.  When he says, "in case you didn't know," he expects you to know, but he wants to be sure you know.

What do you do in case of snow?  Do you buy milk and toilet paper?

Let it Snow!!

It's easier to say, "let it snow" here when we're out of school than in Norfolk or New York.  Do you like snow?  How deep is the deepest snow you've ever seen?

Almost time to begin again!

I'm really happy I don't have an ex-boyfriend like the singer's.  What do you like about people?
Describe a really good person to be with.

Snowman

Do you like to make snowmen?  Do you make snow angels?  Did you play in the snow?

BRRRR

Are you cold today?  What are you doing?

I don't want to be anything other than....

Is this song too fast or confusing?  Do you think the song writer is really egotistical, sensible, cynical, or something else?  Do you think many people want to pretend they are someone different?
