Challenging Listening for Earth Day

This conversation is difficult for our level.  The grandfather talks about how things were when he was young.  I do not agree that his generation was better for the environment!  That generation used leaded gas in their cars and asbestos insulation in their houses.  People smoked cigarettes, pipes and cigars everywhere. They didn't worry about factory smoke or factory emissions and they didn't try to conserve water.

Do you worry about the environment?  Do you try to have a small "carbon footprint?"  Do you remember  different ways of doing things that were good for the environment?

Write about helping the environment.

or

Write about things you used to do, but you don't do now.  How did you change your habits?

Happy Sibling Day!

Describe your siblings.  If you are an only child, write about a childhood friend.  I don't have any brothers or sisters, but I have friends that feel like family.

What do they look like?  What did you like to do together?  How often do you talk to them now?

My Sister

Video from side by side!!
(The sister section starts at 1:59)

Peopel =people

jumping the gun=going too soon or too fast
(Gun here is a starting gun for a race, not a gun to kill people)
go out on a limb = take a risk
(Do something that may be good or may hurt.)

Do you have any sisters?  Does your sister look like you?  What does your sister look like?

Did you play with your sister when you were a child?  What did you like to do?

Baby don't hurt me...

It's up to you = You can make the decision (or do an action) for both of us.

"Don't hurt me any more" sounds more educated ("correct") than "Don't hurt me no more."

Describe someone you love.  What do you like to do together? (G-rated answers please!)

Happy Eid al Fitr

There are more than three million Muslim people in the USA, and tonight is an important holiday.  Eid al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan.

Gonna = is going to = we're talking about a future plan

My friend gave me a pair of eclipse glasses.  I really enjoyed watching the eclipse!

I watched it next to Trailer 4 at Plum Center!  I went camping in North Carolina to see the 2017 eclipse.

Don't Cry Over Prom Dress Prices (if you have a daughter that needs a prom dress, stop by Centreville HS this weekend)

For many young people in the USA, high school prom is the only formal dance they ever attend.

Used dresses are much cheaper than new dresses.

You may also find a good free dress at Centreville High School tomorrow or this weekend.

Kids that are willing to make and wear duct tape clothes can win the
Stuck-at-Prom Scholarship -- Grand Prize winners get $15,000, runner ups $1,000.

Did you go to a formal dance in High School?  Would you let your child go to prom?
