Thank you for a delicious potluck party!

A potluck is a party that asks all the guests to bring food to share.  Many people have potlucks in the USA -- especially groups at schools, churches, and neighborhood pools.  Please bring something yummy.  If you really don't have the time or money to bring food, don't worry.  Come anyway.

Please don't bring pork (pig meat) children, or alcoholic drinks.

Fried chicken & donuts are always excellent potluck choices!
The homemade Mantu, Guatemalan enchilada, fruit salad, and Qabili were so amazing and delicious!

Are you going to do during the break?  Are you coming back?
Do you have recommendations to make the next class better for you?

Let's Go Fly a Kite

I usually do this unit after unit 7 because I like to use comparative and superlative adjectives when I make recommendations.  How do you recommend I make this class better next session?

What was your favorite activity when you were a child?

Let's Stay Together

Did you ever get back together with an ex?  Did it work out well?

Are there any little things couples should do to make it easy to stay together no matter what?  What are they?

Our House

This song pronounces vase as olive-sock vase -- that's British English.
In the US, we say gray-day vase.

Going to the dentist

There are three mistakes in the next video.  They wrote ger when they meant get, and filing when they meant filling.  The young man says his mum tells him off.  He should say that his mom tells him not to eat sweets.  Telling someone off can mean yelling and cursing at them because they made you very angry.

How often do you go to the dentist?  Did you get any procedures recently?

You don't have to

"Would" has many meanings.  In my level, we usually use it with requests.
Would you like some water?

"Would" in this song is past for "will."
I said I would give a vocabulary quiz on Monday.
Today at 11:30 AM: Laurie: "I will give a quiz on Monday."
After Laurie finishes speaking, you can say "Laurie said she would give a quiz on Monday."

Is this the worst Elvis song?  It's a good example of "don't have to.'  What do you have to do?  What are some things you don't have to do?

NEW SAFETY PROCEDURE -- WALK THROUGH THE BUILDING BEFORE YOU COME TO CLASS

When you get out of your car (or off the bus), don't come to our class in Trailer 4.  Go to the front door -- door #1 of the big Plum Center building.

Walk through the front door of the big building at Plum Center, walk past room 100 - the ESOL office -- and walk out the back door.  Then come to our class in Trailer 4.

If you can read and understand this, please text the information to your friends in my class.

The Moon

Did you see the moon last night?

Do you have any good memories about the moon?  I worked at at my university's planetarium when I was in college.  I was happy that I could move (the projection of) the stars and the moon.

Read all about it

Our school gives reading tests mostly to show people who give us money that we are a good program.  The tests are completely different than our curriculum.  It often takes 100 hours of reading to move up 5 points on the test.  Last summer, however, three people moved up almost 10 points in only 5 weeks.  Please read as much as you can.  It's best if you feel interested and know most of the words -- no more than 7 new words per page.

What is your favorite genre?  What are your favorite books?

Don't forget to turn back time! (Fall back one hour)

Most people in the United States turn the time backwards one hour before bed on Saturday.
We are returning to Eastern Standard Time (EST)

If you went back in time, what part of history would you want to see?
What people or stories from history do you like?
